A waiter’s job can be great if you have a nice boss or employer. It is also one of the jobs without any reliability of guarantee. This is because employers may disqualify or fire waiters without any notification. A lady applied for a waiter’s job and found one with a new restaurant/hotel lodge. While working in the new startup restaurant, the lady has been doing everything to impress both customers and her employer.
In the initial stage, the employer told the lady to work for 8 hours since it is a new business. In fact, the lady offered to even work more to help the new restaurant stand on its feet before requesting for a pay increase. The restaurant owner was also impressed at the work ethics of this lady. Her work ethics apart, she is respectful and open-minded to every customer that comes to the restaurant for a meal or drink. One thing was evident, as the waiter increased in energy to serve customers and her employer; people began to show interest in the way she works.
Sometimes, clients will not leave the restaurant without giving her a small tip for an excellent service. Was this developing something hidden in the mind of the waiter’s employer? Nobody can tell, but action speaks louder than voice. It all started this way – the employer will always ask the waiter how much a customer gave her for a tip. In the normal sense of it, this is not the best way to treat your worker. If a client is satisfied with the restaurant service, they may decide to give the server anything from their gracious mind.
Should this worry the owner of the restaurant? To most people, monitoring or evaluating every tip customers award to a waiter should not be the job of an employer. Even for a low pay, the employer is now demanding that the lady waiter should work more hours without an additional pay. This should not be on the basis of coercing a worker, but an agreement between an employer and staff. The waiter asked for an increment in salary, then there goes the unleashing of the restaurant owner.
There is no increment at all here. The employer even mentioned that the restaurant has helped the waiter earn more than anticipated. For this reason, there will not be any salary increment. After 6 months of working for a new startup restaurant, the lady waiter woke up to experience something new. She was replaced with someone else and told not to return to the premises again.
In the course of time, the restaurant owner was unable to manage the business any further. This led to negotiating with the former lady waiter on how to purchase the business. The former waiter had been able to acquire knowledge while working in the restaurant for some months. With this level of experience and expertise, she was able to arrange for money to purchase the restaurant. The headline in the mind of customers read, “waiter gets fired then buys out restaurant”.
