A 48 year old British citizen found himself in some real hot water last week when he was stopped by airport officials after going through security. The man gave permission for TSA agents to check his bags and what they found raised a lot of red flags.
In one of his carry on bags that they opened they found what they estimated to be around 500,000 in cash. “In a situation like this, it’s almost certain that its money laundering or the person is up to no good” a TSA officer told us.
After taking the man in for questioning authorities found out who he was. Sheldon Williams had just had his software company acquired for close to 50 million pounds, the sale officially went through last week. Officers didn’t recognize him at first but once he let them know who he was, all they had to do was pull out their phones and check a news website and they confirmed his identity.
“There are several restrictions on the amount of cash you can carry on a flight, both domestic and international. It was clear to us that Mr.Williams was just unaware of that as he was heading to china with some friends on a gambling trip. We unfortunately had to tell Mr.Williams he could not travel with this amount of money.” We reached out to Mr.Williams and he told us that he totally understands the rules and apologized for the confusion. Oh what it must be like to have millions of dollars…
